PERB Releases 2015 Annual Report

The California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) has issued their annual report for 2014-15. PERB’s report details the activities of the Board during the preceding year regarding public agency labor relations work among other issues handled by the Board. This year saw the reappointment of Board member Eric Banks, and the appointment of new Board Member Mark Gregersen.  The 74 Board Decisions issued in 2014-15 are down from 87 in 2013-14, however, moving forward into next year, the Board will be fully constituted, while it was one member short for most of 2014-15.  ... Sexual Harassment Training: What Employers Need to Know

Most employers understand the importance and need to provide training for employees that discusses prevention and correction of sexual harassment in the workplace.  All employees must be provided with information from the Department of Fair Employment and Housing about sexual harassment; and, since 2006, some employers have been required to provide training to supervisors by a trainer with knowledge and expertise in the prevention of harassment, discrimination and retaliation. Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 adds Paid Sick Days

The Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 creates a requirement for all employers to provide paid sick days for all employees.  After July 1, 2015 any employee who works in California for 30 or more days within one year accrues sick leave at a rate no less than one hour for each 30 hours worked and is entitled to use the accrued sick days starting with their 90th day of employment.  The accrual rate is equivalent to 8-2/3  days per year.  The use of paid sick days can be limited to 24 hours in any one year of employment.  This includes temporary workers and part-time employees that ...
